Darfur Stories: Tell them is an original staged reading, based on first person accounts that dramatize both crisis and commitment in Darfur. The program is a tapestry of written accounts and original interviews with Darfurians, activists, journalists and aid workers. It offers a glimpse of an international movement as well as an eye-witness window into the lives of the people of Darfur and the people who advocate for their survival.
The voices of the people of Darfur in the towns and refugee camps are joined by other storytellers. Among them: Journalist Nick Clooney describes a trip to the Sudan with Oscar-winning son George; David Rubenstein recalls the first meeting of The Save Darfur Coalition; Mark Hanis, founder of Genocide Intervention Network, details how a group of students at Swarthmore help fund African Union peacekeeping troops by raising a quarter of a million dollars in 100 days; Dr. Susannah Sirkin reports on the efforts of Physicians for Human Rights; and UNICEF Ambassador Mia Farrow speaks of her three trips to Sudan and Chad.
Darfur Stories was conceived and researched by Barbara Mackoff and adapted by Reginald André Jackson and the award winning Book-It Repertory Theater in Seattle. It premiered on January 25, 2007 at Roosevelt Theatre in Seattle.
Now, Darfur Stories is available as a script to present or produce in your community or school.
